Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

Published in : Attractions , Attractions and Activities

Second only to Dollywood, Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies has become one of the most popular attractions in the Smokies. Find out more about  it here. If you're looking for a great way to spend an afternoon, you might want to consider checking out Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. As aquariums go it's pretty small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in design. The floorplan is well-thought-out, so that you may not even notice that you're looking at the same saltwater tank several times from different angles. The most impressive part of Ripley's Aquarium is the 340 foot moving walkway that takes you underneath the saltwater tank and gives you the feel of being “under the sea”. Adults and children alike love this part of the tour. Other parts of the aquarium you won't want to miss are the Discovery Center where you can touch a horseshoe crab, and Touch-A-Ray Bay where you can touch several types of rays in a shallow tank.

Although there aren't enough exhibits to entertain you for an entire day, Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies is still a “must-see” even if you've been to other, larger aquariums – if only for the experience of being surrounded by fish and sharks as you glide “underwater” on the moving platform.
