Plan enough time in your tour of Cades Cove to spend four hours or so on this incredible hike!

I love all of the waterfalls in the Smokies, but this one is my second favorite (my favorite being Ramsey Cascades). The walk is about 2.5 miles each way and is moderately steep. There's a lot of going up and down hills, so you can't look forward to walking downhill the entire way back. Like the majority of trails in the Smokies, this one is not paved and isn't suitable for strollers. The toughest thing about taking young children on this walk is the round trip distance. I personally first walked this trail when I was 3 years old, although I don't remember it, so it can be done with preschool children, but I would at least recommend taking a backpack carrier in case they get tired. Most times of the year you'll find moderate traffic on this trail since it is so popular.

My favorite time of year to hike to Abrahms Falls (or any falls for that matter) is in the spring when the spring runoff adds extra water to the falls. Another plus for tackling Abrahms Falls in the spring is the gorgeous rhododendron along part of the trail. Also keep your eyes open for the wildflowers. Everyone walks at their own pace, but on average I would allow 3-4 hours for this hike to give yourself time to spend at the waterfall once you reach it.
