About Mountain Folks of Old Smoky
The stories found in the Mountain History section of MySmokyMtnVacations are excerpts from the book Mountain Folks of Old Smoky by Veta Wilson King.

A native of Sevier County, Tennessee, Veta has family roots grounded in both sides of the Smoky Mountains - roots that trace back to the area's earliest settlers. She is the only daughter born in the middle of a family of eight sons. While growing up in the Oldhams Creek community near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg she developed a deep appreciation for her Southern Appalachian heritage. She has spent years interviewing long-time residents of the Smokies and collecting their stories.
